| Tidying Up Starts with Integration AEA Club, December 2024 |
Without a well thought-out and consistent approach to enterprise integration, IT's capabilities will be significantly weakened. The haphazard, arbitrary execution of integration tasks, cowboyism, leads to the mapping of business processes onto IT systems becoming opaque and unmanageable. Exposures to products, solutions and software developers are created, and temporary (but permanent) solutions and duplications created by constraints only add to the chaos. In such an environment, the need to operate according to service-oriented architecture (SOA) principles, which many consider obsolete, is greater than ever. While classic ESB-centric SOA and the associated solution and tooling are in decline, the principles remain valid.
This presentation will show how SOA principles can be used to achieve a highly supervised, stable, principled, transparent and efficient enterprise integration, built on lightweight elements adapted to today's needs, in a flexible architecture.
- Why is this not in contradiction with, and even in support of, the application of today's fashionable trends such as microservices approaches, cloud computing?
- Why do we think that ESB is not necessarily just a software product, but rather a concept that can be efficient, cheap and useful?
- Why do we see the need to transform SOA, rather than let go of it, so that it can have an impact in a way that is built into the day-to-day operations of IT, without being noticed.
