Global Information Society - Past, Present & Future

We live in a connected world, but it wasn’t always like this. Life was very different in 1995, when the internet was young, and we were all digitally naïve. In an attempt to understand the potential that the internet might have, the G7 Industrial Roundtable convened an international Summit at which a carefully chosen group of delegates discussed the effect that digital communications might have on society. The ideas from that Summit were used to develop the global information infrastructure.

Since then the internet, in common with so many large projects and enterprises, has evolved organically and somewhat chaotically, into what we have today. As the Global Information Society matures, we will have to address the weaknesses in the design of the Internet and strengthen it to handle the pressures of the future.

We aim to finish by 9 pm
